The flamenco dancer and choreographer Cristina Hoyos, founder of the Dance Museum Flamenco From Seville and winner of the National Dance Prize, she will be the godmother of the 34th International Festival of Flamenco “City of the Sun”, which will be held on November 8 and 9 at the Margarita Lozano Auditorium in Lorca.
The contest, organized by the Peña The Lorca Flamenco Cultural Association, in collaboration with the City Council and the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts of the Government of Murcia, has broken its participation record with 50 registered flamenco singers, 25 of whom will advance to the selection rounds. In total, the festival will award €8.000 in prizes, including the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Sun trophies, as well as two runner-up prizes.
As the festival's godmother, Cristina Hoyos will give a lecture on November 17 at the Casa del Artesano, where she will share her vision of art. flamenco and his international career. The program also includes the photographic exhibition “Peaks of Art flamenco”, by Juan Ballester from Murcia, and a performance by the latest winner of the competition, José Olmo, on November 8 in the same space.
With figures such as Raúl Alcántara, José León, Miguel de Tena, Paco Moya, David Pino, Antonio Ayala “El Rampa” or Curro Piñana among its winners, the “Ciudad del Sol” Festival is consolidating itself as one of the great events of the flamenco in Spain.
