We are facing one of the cultural institutions dedicated to flamenco oldest of all those in existence. Founded by Juan de la Plata and Manuel Pérez Celdrán in 1958, it was pioneer in the academic field of our art. Furthermore, historic events such as the Jerez Bulería Festival and actions that led to the revival of the Jerez zambomba, to name a few, were created within its ranks. Since its inception, it has maintained close relationships with writers and scholars, including masters such as Antonio Mairena, Fosforito, and Manuel Cano, which continue to this day.
After a period of inactivity due to the death of its founders, the Chair of FlamencoAndalusian Folklore and Studies has resurfaced with vigor recovering some projects such as its Magazine of Flamencology or the National Awards of FlamencoWith Fran Pereira at the helm, new events have also been created, such as Las Noches de San Juan. We discussed all of this with two members of the board of directors, Manuel Naranjo y Juan Antonio Zarzuela.
