Our physical headquarters are in Jerez, a functional and multipurpose room with the name of Espacio expoflamenco which is configured as a window open to the world from one of the most important cradles of art jondoAlthough artists come from all over the world, we also care about connecting and getting involved in the city that welcomes us, Jerez de la Frontera.
Reason why we join their traditional Harvest Festival, so deeply rooted in such an important wine region. And we did it with two activities that somehow relate the worlds of wine and flamenco, an interaction that our colleague José María Castaño has been working on for more than 15 years and is now developing in expoflamencoWe are very pleased with the great reception that the two sessions we briefly describe have had.

Flamenco Culture & Sherry dedicated to Luis de la Pica
It is about harmonizing a topic of study, a cante or a certain figure, with a wine from Jerez, taking into account the sound and organoleptic affinities of both universes. In this case, the objective was very clear: to study the artistic profile, the repertoire and the lyrics of Luis de la Pica with the wine that he used to drink and that gave rise to some titles in his short discography. We are talking about the fine La Ina. Between videos and photos, we had the great surprise that a sister, Antonia, and Pepe, a brother of the artist, participated. Their testimonies, many of them unpublished, enriched this approach to one of the most unique interpreters that Jerez has given in recent times. It was very exciting to enter into his dream world brought to life. cante with a glass of superior sherry in hand. That is the motto of this type of session: sharing, enjoying and learning together. We thank our colleague Borja for his attention.

Route through the Plazuela de Jerez
The next day, we met at the famous Losada clock lamp in Plaza del Arenal to explore a neighborhood that is essential to the history of the genre. jondo: La Plazuela. A network of streets that is part of the San Miguel neighborhood. About 30 people participated of the illustrated guide visiting churches, monuments or wineries with a detailed explanation of each milestone on this route. And of course, telling the story of each figure found along the way: Don Antonio Chacón, Manuel Torre, La Paquera, La Chati… At the end, we made a cultural activity at our headquarters, reviewing some content about what was seen and experienced first-hand during the tour. As well as some videos of paradigmatic artists of the La Plazuela form of expression: Manuel Agujetas, Juan Moneo Torta and La Paquera from Jerez. All of this, accompanied by some appetizers and local wine for the Harvest Festival.

The entire Space team expoflamenco is very pleased with the large participation in both activities. Follow our agenda to find out about the next ones where we will be waiting for you with open arms and a glass of sherry.
