The Sevillian bailaor Farruquito -born Juan Manuel Fernandez Montoya– has confessed that his new documentary You'll be Farruquito “It has served as therapy and relief for me,” in a presentation that took place at the Seville European Film Festival (SEFF).

The film portrays the flamenco saga of the family Montoya –from the legendary farruco even Farruquito's son, The Moreno– and encompasses successes, setbacks, and the personal redemption of its protagonist.

The flamenco dancer acknowledged that speaking about difficult moments with his heart "on the line" has been a necessary act for him and also to transmit his truth to his children.

Directed by Santi Aguado y Reuben Atlas —the latter an Emmy nominee and resident of New York—, the documentary delves into the intricacies of an artistic lineage, while also showcasing the art of flamenco as a family and cultural heritage that demands commitment.

"The film 'You Will Be Farruquito' portrays the flamenco saga of the Montoya family – from the legendary Farruco to Farruquito's son, El Moreno – and encompasses successes, setbacks, and the personal redemption of its protagonist."

Farruquito emphasized that the film couldn't have been solely about him, because if it had been, "it wouldn't have been made." In his speech, the flamenco dancer also pointed out that "the flamenco "Nothing has changed; we are the ones who have changed."

For his part, filmmaker Aguado explained that the film became a “triptych: past, present and future” of the Montoya dynasty, supported by a large family audiovisual archive.

Furthermore, the writing and cultural advice were provided by the Roma activist Noelia Cortés, who highlighted his mission to "humanize the Gypsy" in the story.

The documentary will arrive in theaters in early 2026 and will later premiere on the Movistar Plus+ platform, after passing through festivals such as DOC NYC under the English title Farruquito: A Flamenco Dynasty.

It is hoped that with him the public will discover not only the greatness of a flamenco dancer, but also the human and social weight that comes with a lineage of art, tradition and overcoming challenges.
