The city of Dos Hermanas will unveil a new monument starting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18th. But it's not just any monument; it will honor the memory of the local flamenco singer. Juan TalegaIt was about time.

The most populated municipality of Seville is not a land that has been prolific in the flourishing of many artists of the jondoBut he gave one immeasurable gift for its worth and what it meant for the history of flamenco'Discovered' by Antonio Mairena in his tireless search for the missing links that would help him rescue the cantes gypsies of oblivion, he found Juan Agustín Fernández VargasJuan Talega. I mention this because the Culture Department and the City Council's Press Office didn't deem it relevant to invite this website, and I know they didn't invite many others, to the event either. Furthermore, according to what they told me on the phone, it's likely that they didn't even issue a press release to publicize it. I haven't found any information about it on internet search engines or on the City Council's social media accounts up to the time of writing.

Such an important moment for culture and for peña local The street named after the flamenco singer isn't even listed on the Dos Hermanas City Council's Facebook page. This is significant, to say the least, if not downright negligent or even offensive.

This idea had always been circulating among Juan's many admirers and fans, both local and from elsewhere. But it was only a few years ago that they became determined to make it happen. I remember a post by a friend Eugenio Martín, flamenco cabal, partner of the Peña Juan Talega from Dos Hermanas, claiming it and making the request public. The person signing these words also spoke with the peña and he contacted the sculptor Martín Lagares, for his exquisite sensitivity when sculpting pellizcos those who pellizcoThey stick together. We sent their budget and I even have two clay sketches in my possession. And it was precisely through Eugenio that I learned the news that the artistic contract was finally approved, although for another sculptor, and after numerous and insistent calls to the City Hall press office and the Department of Culture, I haven't been able to obtain any more information than what I'm passing on to you. Controversies aside, without intending to cause offense but rather to criticize an unseemly procedure unbecoming of the recipient of the sculpture, it would be good if the flamencoThey will support the discovery of this work with their presence and the corresponding announcement will be made in local and regional newspapers and in the specialized press.
