The Macanita presented the details of this exciting project at a press conference this Friday. It took place at the Villamarta Theatre, on whose stage we will be able to see the show on October 4th at 8 p.m. She was joined to talk about the show by her artistic and musical director, guitarist Pepe del Morao, whom the singer calls 'mister', and the director of the Villamarta, Carlos Granados, both astonished at the naturalness with which Tomasa expressed that she was going to "make love on stage with Juan José Padilla", something that evidently alluded to the "theatrical and artistic roneo" that the audience will enjoy with the bullfighter's performance. The rest of the cast is not to be missed, because they will accompany the Jerez-born singer. Bernardo Parrilla to the violin, Tomasa and Maria Peña to the choirs, parakeet navarro to the percussions, to the palmas a symphony of the compass formed by Chicharito, Macano, Javi Peña y Diego Montoya, the piano of José Zarzana, the sonanta by Pepe del Morao and, as guest artists, María José Santiago y Jesus Mendez.
Pepe said he feels "privileged to be at the helm of the show, because La Macanita is one of the best voices championing the Jerez brand, and if we add to that the fact that she'll be singing Gallardo's work, the pleasure is even greater. We're preparing everything with great care, dedication, and attention to ensure it's beautiful and varied. We're really looking forward to October 4th and enjoying it with the audience."
"The repertoire is beautiful and has been very well curated. It's going to sound contemporary, very gypsy, and Jerez-like, while also singing to Antonio Gallardo because his songs are timeless. This helps us work with more energy and enthusiasm."
Tomasa had been mulling this idea for quite some time and has surrounded herself with a wonderful cast to bring it to life. "Antonio Gallardo has some very good compositions, but we couldn't sing everything. We've chosen what we think will be the most beautiful. We'll perform gems like Soleá of my sorrows, I ask the Nazarene, The path of the wind –popularized by Flour- and many others. Gallardo wrote very well and we will shape all of his work with Pepe's guitar and my voice, which are very flamenco, with fresh airs, Zarzana's piano or Parrilla's violin, which makes you cry. I already made an album more than twenty years ago with songs by Gallardo and Cepero, from where I will get Tower"It was a beautiful thing with a lot of musicians participating. I've continued singing those songs. But everyone came to the recording of the album, and on stage, sometimes I had to manage alone with a guitar. We're going to end up singing with a detergent can, with a Vilores, because they're making it more and more difficult for us. But we could still take that album, give it a little spin, and do things. We have to remember those who have left us such an important and great legacy. We have to learn from the good." "I've never been a perfect artist. I've been very respectful and disciplined. My nerves still get to me, and sometimes you don't even remember what you've rehearsed a thousand times."
Pepe insisted that "the repertoire is very beautiful and has been very well handled. It will sound contemporary, very gypsy, and Jerez-like, while also singing to Antonio Gallardo because his songs are timeless. That helps us work with more energy and enthusiasm."
Gallardo was a creator who left his indelible mark on poetry, flamenco and the copla with a prolific work that is part of the sentimental memory of Jerez for signing many of the great successes of The Paquera, Flour, El Caracol, Lola Flores, Dew Sworn or Macanita herself, who will recreate some of them, updating them through her voice full of substance and gypsy spirit.
