The relationship between the aesthetic concept of artist and singer and the nuances that make one the other, and vice versa, do not always leave us with a set of options that must be taken into account when evaluating who takes to the stage. There are singers who are not artists, I insist, from an aesthetic perspective, and there are artists who are not singers. In the first group I include all those who take to the stage, show us their credentials—in the case of today's critics—in the cante, but they do not have an associated staging, a scenery and/or everything that entails, that is, more musicians on stage, lights, etc. These are usually the ones that have circuits, in general, peñas, festivals, and sometimes large theaters. The second group includes artists who are also singers, meaning those who don't sing solo but instead have extensive logistics behind them, a team of musicians, multiple instruments, etc.
We will talk about the first ones today, since the season opened on the night of Saturday, October 11th in a peña Granada, on the outskirts of the capital, Peligros. It is Lovers of flamenco and he was kind enough to call the singer and fan from Malaga Galacho, accompanied by the guitar of Luis Millán.
This man from Malaga is not an artist, but a singer, although his career is short, he has only been known for a few years, and he has gained fame thanks to social networks and parties in which he has been heard participating. One of his virtues is his ability to become Pepe Pinto with its canteHe has internalized it deeply; it's clear that he has chewed, swallowed, and digested it in torrents. He is one of those singers who shouldn't be asked to be generals, to master all the canteYes, because that's not who he is. He doesn't need to, either, because what he contributes is enough for him. But the limited repertoire works against him if he doesn't expand it over time.
Del Pinto draws from all his fandangos and from the compositions that made the Sevillian known beyond his relationship with The Girl with the CombsIt is a pleasure to go back in time and remember again and again Pinto in the voice of Galacho, who sings with the bass guitar perfectly. He recited the famous María Manuela, can you hear me? moving through a long series of fandangos pinteros. It's going great there.
"It's a pleasure to go back in time and remember Pinto again and again in the voice of Galacho de Málaga, who excels when he sings with the bass. He recited the famous 'María Manuela, can you hear me?' while weaving through a long series of fandangos from Pinto. He's doing brilliantly."
For milongas he remembered Pepe Marchena in his own way. He again used the bass, which is his strong suit, and ran through the melodies back and forth with ease. After the milonga, short on lyrics, a couple of them, he tried to remember Enrique Morente Goodbye Malaga, placing the voice as he did Ronco from Albaicín, hitting the right notes at times. Her sandy voice and the way she worked the lower tones, as difficult as that is, made her sound good, although when she pushed herself higher, she strayed from the original forms. She wrapped up the first part with fandangos from Huelva, a long tanda with a pleasant aftertaste for the fan.
In the second part he repeated fandangos again, this time focusing on Pepe Pinto and his Twelfth Night, and some of Agujetas He also fell. Due to guajiras he didn't quite connect with the guitarist, each one on his own, with classic lyrics and remembering Pinto and Escacena.
Millán, for the cante of tangos that would come, introduced the touch with the farruca of You know Toe and heel to leave on a silver platter The language of flowers in Morente's version that the Malaga native tried to square, in which, as throughout the night, when he dragged the cante we bassists liked it and we liked it.
To top it all off, he returned, for the third time, to Pinto's fandango repertoire. "I could be here singing fandangos until January," Galacho said. And that was almost the case. A long, drawn-out performance of them to close the evening and show off the credentials of a true aficionado who masters certain styles and maintains his singing excellence.
