As if putting together a good hour-long or hour-and-a-half repertoire wasn't enough of an effort, the artists flamencoThey are often forced to wrap their proposals in more or less imaginative themes: homages to old masters, introspective journeys, allegories… In this Jerez Festival which ended yesterday, we saw everything, but also more naked proposals, reminiscent of that party that is done with three people, one sings, another dances and another plays.
On his return to the Jerez event, Beatrice Morales He didn't want to complicate things or confuse us with too many plot twists, so he simply titled his new proposal Art“A tribute to the very essence of flamenco “And all the ways in which beauty manifests itself in life,” explains the program notes. “A show that celebrates the purity of gesture, the rhythm born from the soul, the sound that is not studied, but springs from the heart. Here, art is not an object or an ornament: it is a way of seeing, feeling, and inhabiting the world.”
"Morales takes off his skirt to remain in trousers and performs some alegrías, rehearses a good dialogue with the cajón, but the palo Where he undoubtedly feels most at home is in the bulería, where he shows off the strength of his feet in long, rhythmic steps."
On a stage lit in red, reminiscent of the title cards in Flemish films Carlos SauraThe seated figure of the flamenco dancer is silhouetted, wearing a polka-dot dress with wide sleeves and a ruffled skirt. She is accompanied by a Nerd Santiago in its most creative version, Carlos Merino to percussion, The Twins as a guarantee of rhythm and tuning in the choirs, and the maestro Enrique the Extremaduran, one of the great voices of contemporary dance accompaniment, who will begin by entering and leaving the stage to unleash her wise and torrential voice.
Morales takes off her skirt to reveal her trousers and performs some alegrías, rehearsing a good dialogue with the cajón, but the palo Where she undoubtedly feels most at home is in the bulería, where she showcases the strength of her feet in long, flowing steps. The Extremeño then moved on to the Levante region and from there to the tangos, with the dancer sporting a new costume change – a polka-dot skirt, matching shirt and hat – and then to the cuplé por bulerías. Empty hands wearing a black dress and a flamenco dress with a train.
Unfortunately, the sound volume, at times deafening, prevented a large part of the audience from appreciating the nuances of the performance. The final touch of the production will not be provided by its protagonist, but by the silhouette of Boy's Laces, who appears on stage to sing a song of redemption, where love of Art gives way to love of God.
