El Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid participate in the 2026 edition of Summers of the Villa, the main summer festival promoted by the Madrid City Council, presented for the first time in Spain Gypsy Taranta, an unprecedented show that brings into dialogue two great musical traditions of the Mediterranean: the Italian tarantella and the flamenco gypsy rumba.
The stars of the evening on July 21st are the Italian Popolare Orchestra of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in RomeDirected by Ambrogio Sparagna; Gipsy Legend By Toni Cortes – Gipsy Kings Tribute, with the extraordinary participation of Amalia; and the dance troupe directed by the ethnochoreographer Francesca Trenta.
Through a suggestive musical and choreographic journey, the repertoires of Italian folk tradition and Gypsy music are progressively intertwined until they merge into a single sound organism, giving life to an original show, characterized by extraordinary rhythmic energy and intense audience participation.

The project was born with the aim of highlighting the musical and choreographic heritage of the Mediterranean, emphasizing the deep cultural affinities that unite Italy and Spain. The evocative power of the pizzica, the tammurriate, and other traditional Italian dances meets the vitality of flamenco rumba in an artistic dialogue that celebrates exchange, fusion, and collective participation.
The show is preceded on July 20th by a Italian folk dance workshopOrganized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid and directed by Francesca Trenta, this workshop is aimed at dancers from various Madrid dance schools. It will offer a theoretical and practical exploration of the main forms of the Italian tarantella, accompanied by music from the Orchestra Popolare Italiana and Gipsy Legend By Toni Cortes – Gipsy Kings Tribute, with a special appearance by Amalia. Participants will take part in the final performance, helping to transform it into a grand collective celebration that engages artists and audience in a shared experience.
