The mayor of Seville, Jose Luis Sanz, has announced that the photographer Emilio Morenatti, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes, will be the author of the official poster for the XXIV Biennial of Flamenco of Sevilla, which will be held between September 9 and October 3, 2026.
In this sense, Mayor Sanz stressed that the choice of Morenatti "represents a declaration of intent from our city and from this Biennial. We are committed to a profound, committed, and universal perspective. Morenatti embodies excellence, sensitivity, and the ability to tell stories truthfully, values that also define the flamenco already Seville”.
Sanz added that "with their participation, the Biennial poster transcends the advertising format to become a true work of art, a symbol of Seville's strength and cultural identity. This municipal government is committed to projecting the Biennial to the world as what it is: an international benchmark for art, passion, and creativity."

The XXIV Biennial of Flamenco Seville 2026 will once again make the city the world epicenter of flamenco, hosting top-level artists and offering a program that combines stage excellence with innovation and respect for its roots.

Emilio Morenatti, originally from Jerez de la Frontera, is a photojournalist with an extensive career spanning more than 35 years. He currently resides in Barcelona andpeña He served as director of photography in Spain and Portugal and as editor of editorial content in Europe for the American news agency The Associated Press. He complements his extensive experience with a master's degree in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from the University of Art London.
Throughout his extensive career, Morenatti has covered events that have shaped contemporary history in more than fifty countries. He has spent extended periods in complex nations, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. His commitment to his craft has led him to face extreme danger while covering disasters and wars, a commitment that remained steadfast even after a serious incident in Afghanistan in 2009, where he lost a leg during an offensive. Morenatti himself has noted that this injury allows him to "empathize even more and feel closer to the victims."
His work has been recognized with some of the most prestigious awards worldwide. Morenatti has been honored with two Pulitzer Prizes: one for his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in Barcelona, and another for documenting the devastation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine alongside a team of Associated Press photographers.
Morenatti, in response to this commission, stated that “producing a photograph to illustrate the 2026 Biennial poster means for me a great challenge and a wonderful opportunity to get closer to the art of flamenco".
