The renowned Peña Flamenca The Soleá, Palma del Río, has celebrated throughout its Cultural week The fiftieth anniversary of its founding has just been celebrated, an event which, with the persistent collaboration of the City Council, says a lot about how times have changed, that is, how civil society has taken on a leading role in the design and execution of public policies, which it did not have when the entity was formed in the seventies of the last century.
As a human group that is an indicator of the cultural development of Palma, and that gives its social center the condition of a space for learning about democratic participation, it has made of flamenco another heritage asset, and of its Cultural Week, a guarantee for the success of the peñaflamenco dancers from all over Spain.
I make this statement because, in accordance with the foregoing, the 46th Week has recognized in recent days institutions and entities that contributed to achieving the entity's objectives, and among them, last night, the mayor of the town, Matilde Esteo Domínguez, for their support of flamenco culture.
The fact that the associative fabric flamenco The fact that the forty-sixth edition has been dedicated to the highest authority in Palma means, on the one hand, that it recognizes her as the ideal conduit to link the citizens with their most cherished identity, and, on the other hand, the way in which the Peña It remains the focus that keeps alive the specific elements that distinguish its different and multiple cultural contexts.
Fifty years committed to the pedagogy of art and paying tribute to those who make it possible is, therefore, a milestone in the history of flamenco contemporary. But to cope with five decades navigating the different problems that underlie the genre can only be achieved by living that exciting history based on rigor, objectivity, imagination and, above all, having heritage and memory as basic elements of the cultural development of Palma del Río.
And the confirmation was verified last night in the Coliseum Theatre with the guitar of Miguel Angel Cortes, with a taste that suited his technique; the cante de the turry, which goes in progressive diversity in terms of typology and expressive discourse, or the dance of Vero la India, guardian of Granada's aesthetics as evidenced in the taranto and tangos of her land.
And with them a group that, as cultural agents since the creation of the Peña Flamenca, has developed greater social reach and community commitment and, led by Gregorio Gonzalez, has made the social center on Río Seco street a key catalyst for the values and traditions of our cultural heritage.
"Fifty years committed to the pedagogy of art and paying tribute to those who make it possible is a milestone in the history of flamenco contemporary. But to cope with five decades navigating the different problems that underlie the genre can only be achieved by living this exciting history based on rigor, objectivity, imagination and, above all, having heritage and memory as basic elements of the cultural development of Palma del Río."

It goes without saying that, in these fifty years of history, the Peña The Soleá has experienced both triumphs and setbacks, the latter caused by those who refused to defend the art form. Even so, it has contributed to the elevation of the genre and the prestige of its practitioners, becoming a space of freedom for analysts and a platform for artistic reaffirmation. In doing so, it has fostered both diversity and reflection on the times we live in, undoubtedly the best way to preserve for our youth an intangible heritage that represents the lifeblood of an identity deeply rooted in our history.
Valuing not only our past memories but also our present testimonies encapsulates the story of this challenge. Fifty years as a witness with relevant information, so on the night of March 7th, I didn't attend just another closing ceremony or celebration, but rather we witnessed a fundamental incentive for the revitalization of Palma's cultural identity.
But the elements involved in shaping and developing that identity are not limited to Cultural Week. In this context, let us remember that the organization was founded in 1976, created thanks to the passion for flamenco traditions of a group of local amateur entrepreneurs, led by... Francisco González Ramírezand so eager that the following year they celebrated their first festival.
As time went on, Gregorio González Rodríguez, its current president, assumed the presidency in 1988. In his speech, he announced his retirement at the next members' assembly, but recalled how he debuted with a recital of Jose Merce y Manuel de Palma, guitarist and indispensable teacher, in addition to broadening the encounter Flamenco Moon, the tribute to women and countless performances in which he had the expert advice of his late colleague Paco Moyano.
González Rodríguez forms a group of veterans and young people who have implemented social inclusion in Palma del Río, that is, they have favored the creative development and promotion of its protagonists in order to achieve access to flamenco culture for all, without any discrimination, and promoting expressive freedom founded on the rigor of classicism that tradition points to.
Through its network of associations and the municipal corporation, Palma del Río has promoted, also with the support of private companies, the interactive action of all its enclaves. flamencos without exclusion. That is to say, Gregorio González and his directors have preserved, maintained and disseminated the value of the genre as an Andalusian identity heritage, and strengthened the town's integration into its cultural activities, thus positioning their town as a city of knowledge.
The celebration of the golden wedding anniversary of Peña The Soleá, acknowledging the support of private institutions and paying tribute last night to the mayor, Matilde Esteo Domínguez, was not only a privilege for the residents of Palma, but also a grand celebration of coexistence and freedom, both of which are linked to strengthening a reflective, non-discriminatory, universalist, and participatory society. Congratulations! ♦
