Roma people from all over the world are connected by a common heritage, but also by a shared sensitivity that unites them regardless of their origins. A large group of young Roma from Berlin visited Jerez de la Frontera for a meeting focused on sociological and cultural aspects.
Its protagonists visited our Space expoflamenco to tell us, with the help of interpreters, how the experience turned out for each of them, as well as their contact with the flamencoThe Jerez team will return to Berlin. We thank Belén Heredia and Luis Márquez their generosity in making this program possible.
The initiative, funded by European funds, promotes coexistence, integration and intercultural dialogue by art, music and flamenco as universal languages. In total, they participate 20 jóvenes10 from Germany and 10 from Jerez, who will enjoy workshops, cultural visits and joint creative activities during their stay.
The project is being driven by the German organization Das Kombinat In collaboration with Belén Heredia, President of the Acompasarte Flamenco Cultural Association, founded in 2022 to promote the Gypsy culture, equality and non-discrimination.
The German group, specializing in photography and video, will record in Jerez a documentary about the experience, while the young people of Jerez, among 12 and 22 yearsSecondary and high school students will enjoy this mutual learning opportunity before traveling to Berlin in the coming months to continue the exchange.
