La Peña The Good People of Jerez He decided to dedicate his National Saeta Competition to the late, great figure of El Niño Gloria. To join in this tribute, I have decided to compile and share the four saeta recordings of the singer from Santiago, recorded between 1929 and 1930.
No doubt Rafael Ramos Antunez (Jerez de la Frontera, April 27, 1893 – Seville, February 11, 1954) was one of the firm pillars flamencoof the sung prayer. Born in the Santiago neighborhood but artistically nurtured in Seville, he bequeathed to us some prodigious and highly expressive saetas. Santiago-style folk song sculpted with the chisel of the Sevillian Baroque, one might say.
I begin with the martinete and toná chica As a kind of sonic welcome, and after some brief biographical information, I propose listening to two Jerez-style saetas: 'A hoarse bugle had sounded' and 'All seas have sorrow and bitterness' and Two others with a Sevillian flavor: 'Look at the Lord's face' and 'You are beautiful and from Seville'.
