One of the best singers in the history of cante, Pepe Pinto, somewhat forgotten in his own land, Seville (1903-1969), married the greatest singer of all time, The Girl with the CombsIt was in San Gil, in La Macarena, in 1933. He loved her from a very young age, but it took him a while to decide to declare his love. The first time Pastora spoke to him was in the Casino Arahal, in the year 1919. Pepe was a croupier at that casino and Pastora, visiting her mother's village, came in for coffee. El Pinto got on his knees when he saw her come through the door, as if bowing to her. She was only 16 years old and Pastora was going to turn 30. But that first meeting was already a warning of what would come years later, when, already being a figure of the canteIn 1931, he sang with her in Cantillana (Seville) and dedicated some personal fandangos to her: “To the greatest, with the modesty of a lover of the artist and the woman,” said Pepe.

«Pepe Pinto sang a couplet for seguiriyas, which was not cante but a musical cry, breathless, without air, carrying her forward with heartbeats. cante "for seguiriyas it is that, a pain in the chest and a lump in the throat"

Thirteen years older than him, that was no impediment to flirting with him and The Empress They were married for thirty-six years, which is no small feat. Only death separated them, so their love story would become a movie. One day, a doctor from Seville told Pepe that his beloved wife was losing her mind and that he should prepare himself because it was going to be a tough experience, surely the toughest of his life.

That same day, they say, the teacher went to cry in the Barqueta, where no one could see him, with a pain in his chest that lasted until his death. He could not talk about the matter because he would burst into tears. This is what happened to him the day they called him from Radio Sevilla to get him to talk about her. All he had to do was ask him about his illness and if there was a cure, and he started crying like a child.

When the announcer asked him to say some lyrics he had written in his honor, he sang a couplet of seguiriyas, which was not cante but a musical cry, breathless, without air, carrying her forward with heartbeats. cante for seguiriyas it is that, a pain in the chest and a lump in the throat.

Oh, that hurt so much,
what a shame is mine.
It's ending
little by little
my partner.
