At the flamenco Today, few artistic couples have managed to forge a voice as unique as that of Marco Vargas & Chloé Brûlé. Its seal is unmistakable: a flamenco who respects the roots but is not afraid to speak with new words. A flamenco of author.

In this new installment of Flamenco Room, Carmen Arjona talks with them about her career, her references, her creative methodology and her unique way of dance concepts, emotions and silences.

As says Marco:

“In my house we lived the flamenco…it was part of our daily life.”

An childhood marked by the compass, which over the years has become a own, intimate and scenicfull of meaning.

 

Marco Vargas: root, formation and search

Marco Vargas, born in Seville, began his professional career in the 90s in the company of Manuel Soler, participating in fundamental shows such as From the moon to the wind de Eva Yerbabuena, The black bird de Javier Baron.

He has also worked with artists such as Israel Galvan and has been part of the renewal of the choreographic language flamenco in the XXI century.

His technical training, his expressive depth and his theatrical vision have made it one of the choreographers flamencomost respected of his generation.

 

Chloé Brûlé: body, gesture and dramaturgy

Chloe Brulé, French-Canadian dancer and actress, began his training in Montreal, exploring contemporary dance, physical theatre and clowning. He was the flamenco which took her to Spain, where she met Marco.

Since then, his work has been characterized by integrate theatricality, gesture and emotion into a language flamenco radically human and poetic.

She has collaborated as a choreographer with contemporary circus companies and has taken her art throughout Europe and america.

 

A company with its own identity

Together they have created a company more than 20 years of experience, where shows such as:

  • By chance
  • When I say a word
  • Celestial bodies
  • Dogs
  • Time-consuming
  • Private collection
  • A show (his latest creation)

In all of them there is a constant: the fusion of flamenco roots with contemporary stage elements, without losing truth or intensity.

 

Jerez Festival: a key stage

Marco and Chloé have presented several of their shows at the Jerez Festival, one of the most prestigious meetings of the flamenco world. There they have been applauded by critics for its ability to connect with audiences diverse and offer an experience hairsalon exciting and committed.

Carmen Arjona Pabon

Almargen, Málaga. She works in the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage. She has a degree in Journalism and a PhD in flamenco from the University of Seville. Passionate about art jondo since she was a child and a member of the Peña Cultural Flamenca Francisco Moreno Galván since 1998. She lives entangled in the networks of the jondo. Collaborator in print and digital media. Author of collective works by the Gallo de Vidrio Cultural Group "Azotea de la calle Redes" and in the Ámbitos para la Comunicación collection "La Comunicación Vigilante. El colectiva cultural Gallo de Vidrio (1972-2012)".
