Manuel Liñán presents his 'Bailaor@' as part of In Progress

The flamenco dancer and choreographer will present a preview of this work on Friday, December 5th at the Villa de Torrox Municipal Theatre in Málaga. The show offers an intimate look at his personal journey as an artist. The deadline for submitting proposals remains open until April 1st, 2026.

“A celebration of identity, movement, tradition, and the complexities” that shape the art of Manuel Linan. With Flamenco dancer@Liñán immerses himself in a space of self-recognition, without artifice or theoretical pretensions. “This show is not an investigation or an experiment, but a recognition. It is my own acceptance.” The artist explains that this work is the culmination of several years dedicated to building an identity from which to dance fully, even while facing social criticism and judgment. From this honesty, the performance unfolds as a dance recital, a celebration of who he is.

Through a selection of pieces that reflect his evolving identity, Manuel Liñán invites the audience to connect with his story through emotion and movement. Far from crafting a complex discourse, the artist opts for clarity and celebration: “I create this show simply out of a need to dance and celebrate through dance, the result of this joyful quest, which revolves around identity, dance, movement, the established order, roles, contradictions…”. The preview will feature a top-notch cast, made up of José Manuel Fernández Heredia, Sebastián Sánchez Sevilla y Miguel Angel Heredia al cante, accompanied by the guitar of Fran Vinuesa, building together with Liñán a sound and emotional space that sustains the essence of the show.

Manuel Liñán (Granada, 1980) is one of the most sought-after artists in flamenco A contemporary dancer, choreographer, and creator with a unique vision, he combines impeccable technique, a captivating stage presence, and a contemporary sensibility that resonates with diverse audiences. His career is backed by more than twenty awards, including the National Dance Prize, the Talía Awards, the Critics' Prize at the Jerez Festival, the Godot Awards, the Lorca Awards, the LA COPE Award, and several Max Awards.

Big names and new talents to close out 2025

They have all been able to find in Torrox a place to experiment with new forms of expression without giving up their flamenco roots.

 

The call for entries for the 4th edition is now open.

The Concienciarte Foundation, Flamenco The Festival and the Torrox City Council, with the support of INAEM (Ministry of Culture), have launched the call for applications for the 4th edition of the In Progress residency and creative laboratory program, already established as a benchmark in promoting new creative languages ​​and processes within the flamenco, bringing together established and emerging artists in an environment conducive to reflection and creation.

Creators will be able to submit their proposals until April 1, 2026 through this link A committee of industry professionals will make the selection, evaluating the quality and originality of the proposal, its theme and alignment with the purpose of the In Progress program, and ensuring that the project has a creative team in addition to the performers to guarantee it reaches its full potential. Furthermore, for technical residencies, preference will be given to shows with a premiere date.

Thus, as stated in the rulesAfter the assessment, two resolutions will be carried out: the first, in December 2025, which will include the proposals for the first half of 2026 (from January to June) and the second, in May 2026, which will include the proposals for the second half (from September to December, since there will be no residences in the months of July and August).
