Mairena del Alcor presents the poster for the LXIV Festival of Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena

The event, dedicated to the flamenco singer Nano de Jerez, will be held from September 1 to 6 in the Seville town of Mairena del Alcor.

The headquarters of the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco (IAF) has been the setting for the presentation of the 64th edition of the festival of Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena, from Mairena del Alcor (Seville), which this year is dedicated to the Jerez singer Nano from JerezThe festival will take place between September 1 and 6 in various venues in Seville, including the Calixto Sánchez Municipal Theater, the Palace of the Dukes of Arcos, and the Manuel Mairena Municipal Auditorium. Organized by the Delegation of Flamenco of the City Council of Mairena del Alcor, has the collaboration of the Andalusian Institute of Flamenco of the Andalusian Government and the Provincial Council of Seville.

This time, the poster of the LXIV Festival of Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena is an illustration of the painter and poet Francisco Moreno Galvan (La Puebla de Cazalla, 1925-1999) which was the cover of the vinyl record Antonio Mairena and the cante from Jerez of 1972. The Mairena del Alcor Town Hall wanted to pay tribute in this way to the Moorish artist on the centenary of his birth. The presentation of the poster was attended by the Government delegate, Ricardo Sánchez, the director of IAF, Cristóbal Ortega, the mayor of Mairena del Alcor, Juanma López, the councilor of Flamenco, Gloria Guillén, and the presenter of the Festival, the critic of flamenco Manuel Martín Martín.

The Festival will host in its program the third phase of the Andalusian Youth Circuit Flamencos, which will organize two galas in which the 16 artists selected in the previous phase will compete. The Western Andalusia gala will be held on September 2nd, with the participation of Sara Luque y Lola Rosendo in the dance modality, Celia Marquez y Luis Ortega in that of cante, Antonio Jesús Gómez y Jose Quevedo in the touch and Javier Cecilia y Javier Carmona on piano and flute. It will be held at 21:30 p.m. at the Calixto Sánchez Municipal Theater, with free admission until capacity is reached. The Ministry of Culture and Sport has selected this event as the venue for the semifinal "because it is a territory flamenco of excellence, for his defense of the purest and attention to great figures throughout his career."

LXIV Festival Program Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena

The prelude to the Festival will be on August 29 at 22:00 p.m., with a proposal of flamenco merger called Flamenkedada which will take place in the Manuel de Mairena Municipal Auditorium and will be “Jerez in its purest form”. Luis de Perikin accompanied by Joselete Mushogitano, La Junkerita, Manuel de Cantarote, Dolores de Perikin, Gema Carrasco, Fania Zarzana, Manuela Carrasco, Manuela Fernández, Samara Carrasco, Manuela de Perikin, Juan Diego Valencia Jr, Manuel Casado and Fernando de la Morena as well as Saavedra will take to the stage to offer a unique evening.

On Monday the 1st, the Festival will be officially opened at the Palace House of the Dukes of Arcos by the mayor of Mairena, Juan Manuel López, which will precede the conference Francisco Moreno Galván. The present edition concludes on Saturday, September 6th in the same Auditorium with the LXIV Gala of the Festival of Cante Jondo Antonio Mairena. Starting at 22:00 p.m., the journalist Manuel Martin Martin will be in charge of presenting the gala that has as its protagonists Maria Terremoto, Jose Canela, Virginia Gamez and Manuel Castulo at the cante; the guitar of Nono Jero, Antonio Higuero, Andrés Cansino y Manuel Herrera, and to the dance Luisa Palicio with the indispensable and necessary cantes of Manuel de la Nina, Manuel de Gines and Miguel Ángel Heredia, and the guitar of Jesus Rodriguez.
