Guirijondo, the festival of the flamencoof the world, honors the Netherlands

The festival takes place from June 3 to 6 at the new Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa Municipal Theatre and the Arab Baths of PaloMares del Río, Aljarafe, Seville. This edition is dedicated to the Netherlands and features, among others, Dutch artists Tino van der Sman, María La Serrana and Gaspar de Holanda, as well as Chinese guitarist Lola Yang and American flamenco dancer Cristina Hall, with El Pele as the headliner.

At the presentation ceremony of the IV Guiri Festivaljondo, held on Monday, June 1st in the Peña Rociera La Truja, Paloriver seas, Manuel Benjumea, mayor paloMareño recalled that «Guirijondo It was born from a brave, innovative idea, and four years later it has become a fully established festival both within and beyond our borders. When we began this journey in 2022, we knew that the flamenco "It was universal, and we wanted to have it connected to our town," the mayor continued. The Guiri signjondo It is the work of the Sevillian visual communicator Ale Rojaswhich has drawn inspiration from various Dutch motifs. In particular, there is a reference to the geometric compositions of Mondrian, the Dutch artist and precursor of abstract art. There are also nods to the Netherlands through the color palette of its flag, a field of tulips, a windmill, the tulip adorning the flamenco dancer's hairstyle, and a portrait of Van Gogh. The figures linked to flamenco The dancer and guitarist are blond, alluding to the physical appearance of the foreignerjondos from the Netherlands. Furthermore, there are references to Paloseas: the church tower, the fountain in the Town Hall Square with its orange trees and a typical gate with its flowerpot.

Adding to the festival's unique character is the fact that the town is adorned for the occasion with banners on lampposts and balconies displaying flamenco lyrics. A lively celebration of flamenco World Heritage Site in the Aljarafe region of Seville.
