More than half a century ago, a very young dancer was chewing gum while waiting in line at the office of the legendary representative in Seville's Plaza del Duque Mr. Antonio PulponThat teenager, whose face remains a poem of Hindu beauty, would reach absolute heights in dance flamenco from the seventies. Manuela Carrasco, priestess and idol of two generations, recently honored at the XI Tacón Flamenco from Utrera, had a daughter whom she called Manuela, just like her.
Year 2025, eve of the long weekend Andalucia's day, important shows in various places in Jerez in full festival frenzy, good weather, and yet everything was sold out in the discreet Company Room to meet Manuela the second.
«Arms crossed, controlled temperament, forceful stops, taranto, caña… Manuela daughter has the gestures of her mother, whose father was a dancer, hence the dryness of line, the absence of sentimentality»
Arms crossed, controlled temperament, forceful stops, taranto, caña… Nowadays the cantes are given in fragments. Manuela daughter has the gestures of her mother, whose father was a dancer, hence the dryness of the line, the absence of sentimentality.
Manuela in a short dress plays farruca with a violin (unidentified) without cante, cante for seguiriya and tangos by Manuel Tañé, Emilio Molina and an unnamed third party. Flamenco classic, yet fresh, renewable and sustainable.
