The second week of July is back. We're immersed in it. These are the days when Moguer (Huelva) dons the deepest flamenco essence—even more so—and the gathering of aficionados and artists perfumes the air of the town, invigorating our feelings throughout these seven days. In this time capsule where we come to experience the most deeply rooted aspects of our art, we also seek those wings promised to us by the poet of our land, the Nobel laureate. Juan Ramon JimenezIn that flight that takes root and in those roots that soar lies the perfect context for a festival celebrating its 52nd anniversary. Surpassing half a century and possessing the strength to continue celebrating many more years is unequivocal proof of the passion and its spirit. peña de cante jondo, as well as the firm and determined commitment of local and provincial public bodies.
In the context I have outlined, Moguer has prepared its 52nd Festival of Cante Flamenco, in which he places the level of importance on the artist and the space. One of those places is the block of Platero de la Zenobia and Juan Ramón Jiménez House Museum, where the Sevillian artist Angelita Montoya and the guitarist from Jerez José Gálvez They made us feel that sense of light with time within it. That famous phrase coined by Juan Ramón Jiménez to remember his childhood village. The sky, the white streets, and the sun of Moguer represent a happy place where time seems to stand still. It's like a time capsule that preserves its past and its purest emotions. That's where Angelita knew how to navigate. She makes us happy like children. She seems to stop time in those silences that, after a few seconds, return with rhythm and beat, filling our ears with the essence of our souls. And she conveys her emotions to us when her voice, unique and from Triana, intoxicates us with that heritage, that lineage to which she belongs. I'm not deceiving anyone when I say that before the poem Mother who presides over the improvised stage, there are moments when he makes his presence felt Antonia Rodríguez Moreno, her mother, whom we all knew as Antonia La NegraBut it also excites us because she has a particular, unique, deeply rooted and conservative stamp from her past, although with wings to make us touch that blue sky of the Moguer summer that we have as a canopy.
"José Gálvez on guitar, José Manuel Oruco and Juan de Oruco on the palmas, as well as the cante Angelita's music composes a flamenco symphony of sensitivity and artistry. Everything is melody, elegance, at the same time dark sounds full of twists and turns, and air for hearts that long to feel. You can even hear the trills of little birds fluttering around the marvelous Juan Ramón Jiménez-inspired place.

José Gálvez on guitar, José Manuel Oruco y Juan de Oruco at palmas, as well as the cante Angelita's music composes a flamenco symphony of sensitivity and artistry. You can even hear the trills of little birds fluttering around the marvelous Juan Ramón Jiménez-inspired space. José makes jondo The beautiful and vice versa, with no more embellishment than necessary. Angelita seems thrilled to be returning to this land after so many years. She hits us with the first pellizco between attempts: It was made of lime, stone, and sand / the little breeze carried it away / what a pity, my God, what a pity. (…) / Gypsy, for your love / I am going through the trials / of Jesus of Great PowerAnd from there to the tangos, where her Triana heritage shines through. Unmistakable rhythm, unmistakable melodies. In the soleá, the singer whose voice is contained within her voice emerges even more fully. This is how her lineage sings, and this is how she gifts it to us. That connecting thread that takes us from Jerez to Tardón to become... cante Big, truly big, without frills: What things this madman says / who doesn't tell a truth / but a lie, neither./ Oh, forgetting him is the best thing. / For how bad you've been / May God send you a little punishmentAnd from there to the alegrías and the cantiñas. Once again, José's call is like a bell ringing for the new day. Angelita needs only raise her voice, and so she does. With her own unique style and a musicality that touches the soul. And what can I say about the bulería? The metallic quality of her voice reminds us of her origins and where she's taking us. Believe me, it doesn't matter, because I get goosebumps at the most classic pieces and the lyrics of the cuplés in rhythm. Now it's my turn to say, as she sings, "Ole" is a word that has no explanation. And when Angelita Montoya sings and José Gálvez plays, I can only say that they are the explanation. The place, the moment, are dazzling settings that further highlight the beauty of what was experienced and felt.
Within the framework of the festival, we have also heard from the veteran critic and journalist Ramón Arroyowho brought us the conference Enrique Morente, a genius in constant struggle, in which the unique vision of the brilliant artist was reviewed and we had the opportunity to access unpublished audio and images that Arroyo himself provided from his personal archive, almost all of them from the time the Granadan spent in the province of Huelva.
On Thursday the 9th, also in Platero's block, John of Mairena y Francis Gomez They will present their show to us. Traditional and spirited – Mairena/Moguer.
And the grand finale to this flamenco week will be on Saturday the 11th, when the Dolores La Parrala Booth from the Peña de Cante Jondo from Moguer It dresses up for the celebration of its annual event, which this year will be presented by Miguel Angel Fernandez BorreroA veteran journalist with a long career in radio and television, he is currently one of the most prestigious voices in the dissemination and intellectual promotion of the fandango of Huelva. Performances will include Antonio Reyes and Pepe del Morao, Sandra Carrasco and David de Arahaland the people of Moguer Rafael Núñez El Talega, Juanlu Garrido and Martín RomeroThe dance will be by Maria Moreno.
And so, strolling through that universal, lyrical Moguer and flamencoFrom squares and corners with unique charm, we will once again witness the moon's glow over its festival, and its pomegranate tower – the one they call the Giraldilla – watching over our sleep jondo annual. ♦
