In today's program, I want to propose an approach to the saeta through the work of one of its most important scholars: Luis Melgar Reina, co-author with Ángel Marín Rújula of the book Saetas, Pregones y Romances litúrgicos cordobeses (Saetas, Proclamations, and Liturgical Ballads of Córdoba). Published in 1987 by the Monte de Piedad y Caja de Ahorros de Córdoba (Saetas, Proclamations, and Liturgical Ballads of Córdoba), it is undoubtedly one of the most revealing works dedicated to the study of the ancient saeta, notable for addressing its melodic genesis, its literary configuration, and its insertion into the rituals of popular religiosity.

Background music: Amarguras by Rafael Riqueni.
