Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes? What are artists afraid of? What are their greatest fears? What tricky situations have they had to overcome during a performance without the audience noticing? Is there a lot of rivalry between artists?
Well, he talks to us about all of this. Susana Lupiáñez The Lupi in his new show, The unpublished, which premiered on Saturday, June 28 at the Municipal Theatre of Villa de Torrox.
He already warned us in the interview that she kindly granted us to this medium, which was going to be a show where she would open up and that would stir up many emotions. And boy, did it stir them up.
As if it were a Barbie Flamenco, in her little box, with all her accessories, dressed in yellow – that color that was decided to be cursed when Molière died dressed in it right on stage – La Lupi is presented to the public. Meanwhile, Ivan Amaya, as if it were the myth of Pygmalion, he breathes life into it, plays with it and manipulates it as he pleases.
As if wearing a yellow tailcoat were not enough, it also plays a petenera, palo traditionally accused of bringing bad luck, especially to Roma artists. La Lupi, once again demonstrating her stunning technique and her interpretive talent, which at times had a touch of clown, dances as best she can, fighting against all attempts to stop her from her Pygmalion, who is also everything an artist fears and who doesn't allow him to be himself. The sound world he creates deserves special mention. David Galiano to give the perfect atmosphere to each scene.
From the gloomy petenera we move on to some luminous and vibrant cantiñas in which the voice of Alfredo Tejada It gave us goosebumps. And there we were able to witness a whole catalogue of misfortunes that can happen to a dancer on stage, such as having the curtain closed, having your musicians ignore you and knock you off your feet while dancing, or having your dress ripped.
"That delicate turn of the hands, that exact coordination of movements and gestures with the cante and the music, that absolute dedication, that insatiable desire for perfection that is the unmistakable mark of this dancer from Malaga.

Appears Miguel Ángel Corbacho in a short dress. Their dance of Extremaduran jaleos was a true delight, showcasing flamenco spirit punctuated by highly refined classical Spanish dance techniques. Together with La Lupi, this time in black, they performed a pas de deux with exquisite harmony. On this occasion, the underlying theme of the performance spoke to us about egos.
The following proposal brings us back to Iván Amaya, who with his contemporary body expression, in a mastery of the body that creates a great sensation of plasticity and fluidity, once again exerts his pressure on La Lupi, generating indecision, insecurity and, once again, being a hindrance to her, He tries to manipulate her while a piece of bulerías plays, performed by Antonio González with mastery, the general tone of his entire intervention.
The following choreography was brilliant and captivating, a pas de trois by La Lupi, Iván Amaya, and Miguel Ángel Corbacho, each carrying a shawl, creating images of great beauty that thrilled the audience. Is anyone in their profession free from rivalry and criticism among colleagues? With what art and genius was this question resolved, bringing the telephone conversation of Lola Flores y little star castro in the film Flora House (Ramón Fernández, 1973).
And La Lupi never ceases to surprise us and in this show she was not going to be any less, as she also proves to be a great actress by performing a monologue as a confession, while, now yes, she is captivated Maria's work an instrumental piece. It tells us things like 'La Lupi ate Susana' or 'I don't like my face when I dance'. That's why a moretta Venetian and dances to the cante de Tejada por soleá apolá –who remembered Marchena–, putting all his being, all his technique at the service of his expressiveness, of his infinite creativity: that delicate turn of hands, that exact coordination of movements and gestures with the cante and the music, that absolute dedication, that insatiable desire for perfection that is the unmistakable mark of this dancer from Malaga.
In the end, everything is objective and observable, like in a museum, and in the end, of course, we must burn away our fears, put an end to everything that restricts and holds us back, and seek freedom.
Don't worry if reading this review makes you want to see this show, because if you missed the preview, you're in luck! The official premiere will be coming soon as part of the Art Biennial Flamenco from MalagaIf I were you, I wouldn't miss it. You've been warned.
