The first of the summer courses at our Jerez headquarters is now underway. It will be held on the day pointed out Santiago, on July 25th, in a single session. Registration is open, but places are limited. Here you can find all the course information and how to register.

Course objectives:

An in-depth study of the soleá forms attributed to the singer Mercedes Fernández Vargas (Jerez de la Frontera, 1840 – Utrera, 1912). Known artistically as La Serneta or La Sarneta, she left behind seven different variations of the cante We'll review them one by one thanks to the recordings left by great masters, especially at the beginning of the 20th century. Unfortunately, Merced left no recordings, hence we speak of attribution and not direct authorship. Each of his soleá variants has correspondences with other styles within the same genre. cante which will also be studied. Its content is aimed at anyone interested.

Introduction a).- As a biography, the Albarizuela neighborhood of Jerez; the controversial issue of the Jerez-Utrera affiliation.

Introduction b) .- A singer followed by all the greats in the discography of the beginning of the 20th century. In particular, La Niña de los Peines, a great supporter of the cante from La Serneta.

1.- The preparation style versus 'I was a rock and lost my center'

2.- The original style vs. 'One day it was me'

3.- The Jerez style of transition vs. 'I never failed to obey my law'

4.- The Triana transition style vs. 'Nor will I pass through your troubles'

5.- The short Jerez style vs. 'I am going to serve the king'

6.- The brave or closing style of Jerez vs. 'I don't complain about my star'

7.- The brave or closing style of Triana vs. 'Early in the morning'

8.- The imprint of La Serneta in the XNUMXst century

9.- Summary and conclusions. A glass of honorary sherry will be offered.

Registration and enrollment:

Includes delivery of materials as well as a tutorial follow-up once the course is completed. (Possibility of admission to a show.) flamenco of that day, pending agreement with the corresponding department of the Jerez City Council)
