On August 23, the monumental region of La Janda hosted the big day of its festival flamenco. This is now the 52nd edition with posters packed with great figures in an exceptional setting, the site of the historical Walls of Segur.
A spectator from outside said that just seeing such an exceptional sight was worth the price of admission. Indeed, the secluded corner brims with an incomparable flavor where flamenco expression finds an ideal outlet in the cool breeze of the nearby Atlantic.
The Flamenco Night of Vejer de la FronteraFor this and other reasons, it has been officially declared a place of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia. Each year, a poster is created that addresses the different flamenco geographies and their stylistic variations. A quick glance at the posters decorating the stage is enough to see how it has evolved. for its boards the cream of the genre jondo of the last decades.

Opening the square we could enjoy the winner of the XXV National Competition of Cante Flamenco City of Vejer represented in the voice of Daniel Castro. Next to the guitar of José Antonio Castilla, the singer from Santos de Maimonidas (Badajoz) demonstrated knowledge and skill worthy of the award that earned him his place on the bill.

After the obligatory break, the veteran and award-winning flamenco company of Carmen Guerrero from Cadiz put on the dance number with some successful choreographies that gave way, somewhat late, to the expected appearance of the Chiclanero Antonio Reyes MontoyaWith the label of first figure and a great quality in the repertoire, he put the finishing touch to the Vejer night escorted by Nono Reyes to the guitar and the palmas de Manuel Vinaza y Ramon Reyes.
There is nothing left but to thank the effort of the Vejer Town HallWith its mayor Antonio González and his delegate Manuel Jesus Melero at the forefront, to maintain this great flamenco event.
