The 1st Biennial Flamenco Madrid closes with more than 27.000 spectators across its 32 offerings

The first edition of this festival of flamenco It took place in the Spanish capital from May 23 to June 6. Nineteen shows sold out, and almost half of the performances were led by women.

The first edition of the Biennial Flamenco Madrid, an initiative of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport of Madrid City Council, concluded with enormous success in terms of participation. From May 23 to June 6, 2025, the Biennial welcomed 27.500 spectators to its 32 artistic offerings, with an average occupancy rate of 91 percent and 19 shows sold out. The program's commitment to female talent was also notable, with almost 50 percent of the shows led by women.

The closing gala on Friday, June 6, led by the singer Israel Fernandez, key figure of the flamenco contemporary, brought together 9.000 spectators in the auditorium of Enrique Tierno Galván Park, a full house for an unprecedented spectacle. Families, groups of friends and people of all ages gathered in a festive atmosphere to share an evening of flamenco of the highest level, with fourteen musicians on stage and a production produced exclusively for this Biennial.

In the words of the Biennial's artistic director, Angel Rojas, “the balance of the first edition of the Biennial Flamenco Madrid has exceeded all our initial expectations, both artistically and in terms of the project's overall impact. We have achieved our main objective, which was none other than to move the public and strengthen the flamenco as an art of its own that captivates intergenerationally.”

Some resounding figures

The first Biennial Flamenco Madrid brought together 166 artists in its 32 artistic offerings and saw a high turnout for the activities that filled its agenda. More than 6.000 people visited the photography exhibition. bailArte Madrid, by the Madrid photographer Javier Enrique Fernández, composed of images of 40 dance artists flamenco of different generations in emblematic locations of the city. The Congress Corral de la Morería, 70 years of tablao, first meeting in history that focuses on a tablao flamenco, recorded a full house on its debut day.

As to Off Biennial, which has included 11 exhibition halls of the initiative Flamenco Capital of the Madrid en Vivo Association, has had almost 2.000 attendees. Another part of this program of Off Biennial It has been developed in ten tablaos of the Tablaos Association FlamencoMadrid, also very well received by the public. Added to this was the success of the choreographic workshop on tap dancing. STAMPIO [from reconstruction to fantasy], from the hand of Estevez/Cloths and Company.

“Madrid is once again in the spotlight thanks to the launch of this major cultural event,” summarizes Ángel Rojas. The first edition of the Biennial Flamenco Madrid concludes thus looking at the future and looking forward to the next reunion with its audience in 2027.
