Madrid joins the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the birth of Camarón de la Isla With a special tribute in the heart of the city. Puerta del Sol will host a free, open-to-the-public performance starring the Cadiz-born singer on Tuesday, July 1st at 21:30 p.m. judeline and the guitarist Yerai Cortes, in a date that promises to be one of the most emotional musical moments of the summer.
Organized by CRUZCAMPO In collaboration with Heineken Spain, the event is part of a broader program commemorating the legendary singer from San Fernando. The musical proposal that both artists will present on stage, titled A bridge across the bay, has been created expressly as a tribute to the legacy of Camarón, from a contemporary perspective that combines respect for flamenco roots with new musical languages.
Judeline, one of the most innovative emerging voices on the national scene, mixes flamenco with electronic, pop, and urban sounds. His participation seeks to reflect that capacity he had Camarón of connecting the traditional with the new. "To pay tribute to him would take four lifetimes; this is a small, loving gift. It came from the heart," explained the artist, who will perform without any technical filter on her voice. This will be her first live performance with Yerai Cortés, a collaboration she defines as a show of mutual trust and admiration.
The guitarist, known for his participation in the award-winning documentary The flamenco guitar of Yerai Cortés produced by C. Tangana, also wanted to underline the depth of this quote.Camarón "It's home. I compare it to the sounds you hear as a child, like coffee or the washing machine. We grew up with his voice. He's the God of the gypsies, of a vast culture," he stated. Together with Judeline, he worked on a composition that incorporates sonic and lyrical symbols from the singer's imagination, with references to alegrías and bulerías, and the participation of an eight-woman choir.
«The tribute vindicates Camarón not only as a key figure of the flamenco, but as a symbol of creative freedom. Through the music of Judeline and Yerai Cortés, his voice remains—as Yerai himself said—the most prestigious historical monument in Spain.
The tribute is not limited to the recital. That same day, at 18 p.m., the UMusic Hotel Carretas Street (number 10) hosts a colloquium open to the public in which key figures from the personal and professional environment of CamarónAmong them is his widow, Dolores MontoyaKnown as the spark, in an intimate gathering to share memories of the artist and analyze the cultural impact of The Legend of Time, considered by many to be one of the most influential albums in Spanish music. He will be accompanied by the journalist Amelia Castilla, the drummer of Vetusta Morla David El Indio García and the author of the script for the unpublished live performance Oviedo, San Mateo 1991.
From July 1st to 6th, the UMusic Hotel will also host a pop-up store dedicated to Camarón, where you can purchase their albums in different formats, official merchandising and a special vinyl edition of The Legend of Time, with a foil-printed folder and a limited edition. This action underscores the multidimensional nature of the tribute, which goes beyond a nostalgic remembrance to become a celebration of his living influence.
This concert in Sol is also a symbolic way of giving back to Camarón the affection it continues to inspire among diverse audiences. Not in vain, Cruzcampo already recovered a lost bulería by the singer in 2024 entitled The Cross of the Field, in which he improvised a letter dedicated to the brand.
The tribute thus vindicates Camarón not only as a key figure of the flamenco, but as a symbol of creative freedom. Through the music of Judeline and Yerai Cortés, his voice remains—as Yerai himself said—"the most prestigious historical monument in Spain." A reference that, far from fading, continues to illuminate those who seek in art a way to transform what they inherited into something living and personal.
