The following is a list of the most important events of the year: Pastora Galván are some of the nearly 200 artists of the cante, touch, dance and music that will participate in the IX Art Biennial Flamenco from Malaga, organised by the Provincial Council through the company Turismo Costa del Sol.

The President of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, presented this new edition of the Biennial this afternoon in Madrid, within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which will take place between May 27 and August 2 in 25 municipalities of the province, of which 12 have fewer than 20.000 inhabitants.

The Biennial will resume the 2021 format and will stage 38 shows and recitals, 18 of which are world premieres. Guest artists include Rocío Molina, Pasión Vega, Manuel Liñán, Alfonso Losa, Carrete and La Macanita.

Francisco Salado has focused especially on the opening gala, which will take place at the Cervantes Theatre in Malaga on 27 May, with the premiere of 'La Maharaní', by the Estepona dancer Luisa Palicio. This is a show co-produced by the Biennial and based on the passionate and novelistic life of Anita Delgado, the Malaga singer who became Maharani of Kaputhala, in India.

“Luisa has an exceptional cast, with five highly prestigious guest artists such as Pasión Vega, La Macanita, Carrete, El Remache and Chato de Málaga,” said the president of the Provincial Council, who has revealed the name of the character who will receive this year's Biennial Art Award. Another dancer from Malaga, Susana Lupiáñez 'La Lupi', will present her new proposal, 'Lo inédito', at the Biennial, a journey that she will share on July 25 at the Edgar Neville auditorium, the same space in which Malaga-born Ana Almagro, a dancer from the National Ballet, will premiere 'X el amor' on June 12.

A range of artists from the flamenco more authentic enriches the programming of the IX Art Biennial Flamenco from Malaga. On the one hand, on June 28, on the stage of Alcazabilla street, in the capital, will be 'Flamenco as always' José de la Tomasa, Vicente Soto 'Deafness', Juana la del Pipa and Concha Vargas; and on the other hand, on August 1st at the Coín auditorium, Aurora Vargas, Jesús Méndez, Antonio Reyes and Manuela Carpio -this one dancing- in 'Identity'.

Closing with 'I am a Gypsy'

The Biennial will close on August 2nd at the Rincón de la Victoria auditorium with a great show of our own production, 'Soy gitano', under the musical direction of Jesús Bola, author of the arrangements and musical adaptations. The direction of the Biennial has chosen the two most popular voices of the moment, Duquende and Pedro El Granaíno, accompanied by the dance of Farruquito and the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Málaga.

The goddess of dance, essential at any flamenco event, will be at the Málaga Biennial. Manuela Carrasco will present 'Bailando a Manuela' on July 26 in Ojén. The maestro will be honored on stage by the flamenco dancers Pastora Galvan, Gema Moneo, Zamara Carrasco, Manuela Carrasco daughter and Saray de los Reyes.

The Felipe VI Auditorium in Estepona will be the stage on July 18 for the presentation of guitarist Francisco Vinuesa's own show, 'Journey to the Center of Myself', in which he will be supported by a cast of extraordinary guest artists such as Rocío Molina, Manuel Liñán, Alfonso Losa and El Remache.

Another guitarist, also from Malaga, proposes a more daring show, 'Mediterranean Sundance'. Rubén Lara will climb the Cerro de San Cristóbal, in Vélez-Málaga, on June 20, together with Javi Merino and Martín Veredas, to offer the richness of the flamenco and jazz with three guitars.

Ana Fargas and Paco Javier Jimeno will be performing 'Hojas caídos' in Álora, and Isabel Guerrero with 'Peinaora' in Almáchar. Meanwhile, the dancer Sandra Cisneros will play María Zambrano with 'María de mis entrañas' in Alhaurín el Grande, while the Jerez family of Los Mijita will be held at the Ronda Wine Centre.

The Biennial will tour the less populated towns with the company of the dancer José Lucena, who has put together 'Madre mar' to take it to Campillos and the bullrings of Carratraca and Benamocarra, while the group flamenco by Fátima Navarro will land in Teba with 'Between your soul and mine'.

The Edgar Neville will open on four Thursdays in June to host a dance cycle starring Carmen Camacho ('The Sea Cannot Die'), Ana Almagro ('For Love'), Úrsula Moreno ('The Stick Comes From the Heart'), and El Farru, Juan de Juan, José Maya and David Paniagua ('Bailaores').

The dancer Luisa Chicano will premiere 'De mi soleá' in Nerja; the company Teatro Flamenco will perform the play 'Los cafés cantantes' in Pizarra, and the dancer Ana Pastrana will perform 'Zambra' in Alameda.

The instruments, as protagonists

The President of the Provincial Council, during the presentation, pointed out that through the Biennial "the flamenco opens up to the universal discourse of music, which shows that the flamenco is more alive than ever. Instruments that enrich our conception of the music will participate in this edition. flamenco, without losing an iota of its authenticity.”
