1st BIENNIAL FLAMENCO MADRID – PROGRAMMING

OFF BIENNIAL FLAMENCO MADRID 2025

• It is conceived as a celebration of flamenco of the past, present and future, under the artistic direction of Ángel Rojas

• The unique and exclusive opening gala will bring the cante, the touch and dance of Jerez de la Frontera and its Bulería Festival for the first time to another part of Spain

• This gala will have a luxury master of ceremonies and musical director: Tomasito and Juan Parrilla, respectively.

• The central stage of the Biennial will be the South Patio of the Conde Duque Center for Contemporary Culture, where you can enjoy artists of enormous importance.

• The program will reach the entire city with dates at the Teatro Circo Price, CentroCentro, Matadero Madrid, the San Isidro Museum, the Royal Basilica of San Francisco El Grande, and the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

• The closing gala will be held on June 6 at the Enrique Tierno Galván Park Auditorium and will be hosted by Israel Jerez, with free admission.

The delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, presented this morning, at the Condeduque Contemporary Culture Center, the Biennial Flamenco Madrid, which will be held from May 23 to June 6 and was born with the vocation of being a reference for the flamenco nationwide since this first edition.

29 artistic proposals, 11 world premieres, 13 free shows, a flamenco gymkhana, and the first congress dedicated to a tablao are part of the program for this Biennial. Flamenco Madrid, whose declaration of intent is clear from the opening gala: the Bulería Festival, a unique, exclusive production never seen outside of Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz).

In the presentation, Rivera de la Cruz highlighted that "for two weeks the capital will be a living stage, in which the past, present and future of the flamenco will be made available to Madrid residents and tourists." The delegate also stressed that "singers, dancers and musicians of different generations, established or at the beginning of careers that are expected to be successful, will demonstrate the love affair that has always existed between Madrid and the flamenco“They both share a love of art and its constant evolution, without ever forgetting their roots.”

For his part, the artistic director of the Biennial, the choreographer and dancer Ángel Rojas, has outlined the four pillars on which this project is based "and that They give perspective and a high view of both the present and the future: art, harmony, territory and citizenship”.

The Biennial will also host much more than cante, touch and dance in the
official programming stages: it will also be part of a wide range of offerings at Off Bienal, organized under the seal Flamenco Capital of Madrid Live; A choreographic workshop on tap dancing, ESTAMPÍO [from reconstruction to fantasy], by Estévez/Paños and Company; the Biennial Congress Flamenco Madrid, dedicated to the historic Corral de la Morería, and the photography exhibition bailArte Madrid, by Javier Enrique Fernández.

A dialogue between tradition, the present and the future of flamenco
The curtain will rise on May 23, when the flamenco more rooted in tradition will return to the Teatro Circo Price its connection with this genre and, for the first time, will bring to another part of Spain the cante, the touch and dance of Jerez de la Frontera and its Bulería Festival.

With a master of ceremonies and a luxury musical director, Tomasito and Juan Parrilla, respectively, it will feature Jesús Méndez, Juana la del Pipa and Pepe el Morao, who will lead fifteen Jerez artists, among whom there will be no shortage of new blood such as Manuel de la Nina, Chaquita or Pirulo.

In the coming days, the South Patio of the Conde Duque Center for Contemporary Culture will become the nerve center and central stage of the Biennial. During the first week, you can experience the world premieres of De raíz by Bandolero, Juan José Suárez Pakete, Montse Cortés, Nino de los Reyes, and others;

On the banks of cante, by Antonio Reyes and Esperanza Fernández; Eighteen Strings, the first concert of the Víctor Monge Serranito Guitar Cycle, with Gerardo Núñez, Dani bado On May 24th, the flamenco gymkhana by Vanesa Coloma stands out, which will turn the Plaza Matadero into a giant stage where families who wish can learn their first steps of flamencoThere will also be events this first week at the San Isidro Museum, CentroCentro, the Royal Basilica of San Francisco El Grande, and the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, as well as the Central Courtyard of Condeduque.

The first congress dedicated to a tablao

The first Biennial Congress Flamenco Madrid arrives under the title 'Corral de la
Morería, 70 years of tablao'. This is an exceptional event, because it will be the first meeting in the sector dedicated entirely to a tablao. flamencoTeo Sánchez, music journalist and director of Duendeando (Radio 3), is leading this meeting, designed to reflect on the role of tablaos in the dissemination of flamenco and its participation in the cultural identity of Madrid.

The conference will analyze the history of the Corral de la Morería and the keys to its longevity and ability to remain relevant for seven decades. It is not just about commemorating an anniversary, but also about opening a dialogue about the importance of these performing arts spaces for the survival and evolution of a living, contemporary art form such as music. flamencoThe event will be free to attend and will be held at three venues: the Ateneo de Madrid, the Corral de la Morería, and CentroCentro.

The closing gala on June 6, with free admission, will bring the Biennial to a close in style. Flamenco Madrid 2025. In the Auditorium of Enrique Tierno Galván Park, one of the greatest exponents of the flamenco contemporary:
Israel Fernández, accompanied by his musicians, a choir of six singers, and a string quartet. This concert is a world premiere, created especially for the occasion.
