Rules of the XXXIII National Saeta Competition and Cantes Miner of Passion

The “Saetas” competition It will be held in the city of La Unión, on April 1th 2026 in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of La Unión.

The competition is open to all singers, professional or not, with the exception of the winner of the First Prize for Saetas from the last three editions.

The style of Saetas to be performed is free, being mandatory to perform a cante by Saetas, which may be interpreted with its corresponding change, if it has oneThe lyrics must allude to the Christ of the Miners. Registration can be done by email to the following address: arrows andcantesminerosdepasion@gmail.com until 00:00 hours on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Contestants must submit their updated curriculum vitae, including the following mandatory information: full name, stage name if applicable, national identity document number, place and date of birth, residential address, contact telephone numbers and email address, as well as a current recording or internet link in which their interpretive ability can be tested in the cante of the Saeta and the cantes miners.

The following prizes are established:
- First Prize for Saetas endowed with the amount of 1800€ (one thousand eight hundred euros) – Isabel Díaz “La Levantina” Trophy.
- First award of Cantes Miners of Passion endowed with the amount of 1800€ (one thousand eight hundred euros) – Esteban Bernal Velasco Trophy. Any contestant, whether professional or not, may participate, regardless of the prizes obtained in this category in previous years.
- The award will be given to the best interpretation of Cantes Miners (Taranta, Minera, Cartagenera, Levantica, Murciana, CanteMadrugá, Tarantos, as well as any of the modalities of the cante(derivatives of the taranta), with the performance of two different styles being mandatory cantes miners, whose lyrics must necessarily allude to the Christ of the Miners.
- Second Prize of Saetas or Cantes Miners of Passion endowed with the amount of 1000€ (one thousand euros).
- Special jury award endowed with the amount of 1000€ (one thousand euros), which will only be awarded at the jury's discretion to the artist whose creativity leads to new interpretations and contributions in any of the saeta modalities or any of the cantes flamencos, which may be replaced by the special jury prize for young singers who, without having been awarded in any of the previous editions, have not turned 20 years old on the day of the final.
- Likewise, a runner-up prize is established endowed with the amount of 300€ (three hundred euros), for the finalists who have not managed to win any of the previous prizes.

The Organizing Committee of the National Saetas Competition and CanteThe Miners of Passion “City of La Unión”, as well as the collaborating entities, reserve the right to record the performances of the contestants, for their use, with the aim of disseminating the Art Flamenco, in general, and the Saeta and the CanteMiners of Passion in particular.
The performances that are carried out as a result of this competition, even if they are not awarded a prize, may be recorded, reproduced, distributed and publicly communicated, in whole or in part, as well as edited on any technical system or format for broadcast on radio, television or the Internet, with a universal scope and for the maximum time allowed by current legislation.
The provisions of this clause shall be without prejudice to the rights that third parties may hold in relation to the cantes interpreted, and of the authorizations that may be necessary to obtain in this regard.

The contestants will be judged by a jury made up of experts in the genre. Flamenco and of the Saetas and the CanteThe Miners in particular, designated by the organization. Their decision will be final. Participation in the competition implies acceptance of the rules as well as any resolution adopted due to unforeseen incidents, both by the organizing committee and by the competition jury.

The jury will meet beforehand to establish a preliminary selection of contestants based on the recordings provided, selecting a maximum of four finalists who will be qualified for the final.
The selected contestants must appear at the headquarters of the La Unión Town Hall, at Calle Mayor nº 55 (Edificio 'Casa del Piñon') in the same town at 17 pm of April 1st (Holy Wednesday), where the following will take place draw which will determine the order of action.
The Final of the XXXIII National Saeta Competition and CANTES MINERS OF PASSION “CITY OF THE UNION”It will take place at 20 pm of April 1, 2026 in the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The contestants who are awarded prizes must sing as the Holy Thursday Procession passes by at the points determined by the organization.
All contestants are required to maintain proper decorum and show respect for the religious sentiment expressed by the people of La Unión during Holy Week. Male singers will wear black suits, and female singers will wear black dresses adorned with a mantilla and headscarf.
The judging panel may declare any of the prizes void, without prejudice to its power to, if it deems it appropriate, distribute the corresponding financial endowment into several runner-up prizes. Likewise, it may award Special Mentions as it deems appropriate in any of the artistic and interpretive facets shown by the contestants in their participation.

The winners of the Isabel Díaz 'La Levantina' and Esteban Bernal trophies of the competition must attend the presentation of the following year's edition.
NOTE:
The Contest Organizers will cover accommodation and meal expenses. The trophy, certificates, and cash prizes will be awarded to the winner at the conclusion of the competition at the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, once the jury's decision has been announced. Cash prizes will be paid by bank transfer and will be subject to the withholding taxes established by current Personal Income Tax legislation, which will apply at the time of payment and for subsequent deposit into the public treasury. The same withholding tax will apply to any other amounts payable to contestants under these rules, if such amounts are subject to tax.
