The International Festival has awarded the 'Pencho Cros' prize to the Association of Tablaos Flamencos of Madrid for their dedication and effort to preserve, promote and give visibility to this art in the Capital

The Tablao Association FlamencoMadrid's beats to the rhythm of the passion and tradition of flamenco and embraces all the tablaos in the Spanish capital. Since its creation, its main objective has been to unify and give visibility to the Madrid tablaos, working to preserve and spread this art and promote these magical corners where the flamenco comes to life in its purest form.
The presentation of the 'Pencho Cros' Award of the International Festival of Cante from the Mines to the Tablaos Association FlamencoThe 63rd edition of the Madrid tablaos is a recognition of the cultural value and social impact that these spaces represent. Thanks to their commitment, the tablaos of Madrid continue to be bastions of Spanish culture, guaranteeing the transmission of this artistic heritage to future generations.
Juan Manuel del Rey, president of the Association, collected the award yesterday in La Unión, stressing that the tablaos are “the R&D&i of flamenco; the artistic research laboratories where great artists make this art evolve and share their knowledge with others.” “Before, artists barely survived and now these tablaos give them stability, making artists of enormous quality emerge who can live off their art,” he added. In this sense, tablaos are crucial for the development of new talents. “The most important artists have passed through them and continue to pass through them, as well as the most relevant figures on the national and international scene who create the history of the world every day. Joaquin Zapata, President of the Foundation Cante de las Minas and mayor of La Unión, wanted to highlight the ability of these tablaos to adapt to the times, being “the longest-standing stage space for developing this art, incorporating high-quality gastronomy and being cultural epicentres through which Spain is known and visited”.
