The echo of the mines becomes a prayer in La Unión. The Foundation Cante The Mining Association, together with the Town Hall and the Illustrious Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of the Miners, has announced the opening of the registration period for the XXXIII National Saeta Competition and CanteMiners of Passion “City of La Unión”.
This competition, now in its thirty-third edition and fully established, is not just a contest; it is the epicenter where the depth of flamenco and the solemnity of the Mining Holy Week. An unparalleled artistic challenge
What distinguishes this competition from any other is its technical and emotional demands. The singers must demonstrate their mastery by performing two fundamental pieces: one arrow or with a cante passion minerwhose lyrics must be dedicated to the figure of Christ of the Miners. This unique combination highlights the identity of a people who sing of their faith from their deepest roots.
The grand final, which promises to be a display of talent and poignancy, will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 20:00 p.m., under the ships of the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Awards and projection
The organization has provided the competition with significant incentives to attract the best voices on the current scene:
- First Prize for Saetas: 1.800 euros and the prestigious Isabel Díaz “La Levantina” trophy.
- First award of Cantes Passion Miners: 1.800 euros and the Esteban Bernal Velasco trophy.
- Second Prize: 1.000 euros.
- Special Awards: 1.000 euros allocated to innovation or the promotion of young talent.
- Second prize: 300 euros for the finalists who do not win a prize.
