Guitarist Juan Ramón Caro has received the 'Pencho Cros' for the Discography of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas in recognition of their second album 'Caríssimo'. It is a work that shows an evolution in their guitar concept since their first work 'Rosa de los Vientos', with a direct nod to La Unión and its festival: a mining song sung by Miguel Poveda in which they narrate what it meant for them to reach the competition of the Cante de las Minas and that the Catalan singer won the 'Lámpara Minera'. A song that they performed during the opening speech of this new edition of the Cante of the Mines.
During the award ceremony, which took place yesterday as part of the Festival's Cultural Agenda, Caro said he felt "out of place": "Guitarists are hidden and locked up, behind the guitar, and standing here is like standing in front of a bull," he said. Because he feels that "guitar records always go unnoticed." "That they give a prize to a guitarist is always appreciated," he said a few months ago, when he was informed of the award.
Now he feels that “receiving this award serves as an incentive for me to continue working, studying and giving my life for an instrument that you have to play every day,” says the Catalan guitarist. But he pointed out that a fundamental driving force in bringing forward this latest work has been Antonia Contreras, 'Lámpara Minera' 2016, whom he accompanied to win the award. “My soul mate Antonia was the one who convinced me to record the album,” said an emotional Juan Ramón Caro.
“Thank you very much and long live the festival and may we continue to see each other for many more years,” concluded Caro.
