El Maria Luisa Theater Mérida (Badajoz, Extremadura) hosts the fourth edition of the 18 International Fair of the Year Festival Flamenco Mérida Spanish Guitar. Five shows make up this year's program, with the participation of fifteen renowned artists in the current scene of flamenco.
The initiative, promoted by Mericars Tour, was presented by its manager, Juan Cabral, together with the mayor of Mérida, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna. «The festival was born in 2022 as one of the big bets for the flamenco in the region with the aim of promoting Mérida's brand as a cultural tourism destination," explained Juan Cabral, head of Mericars Tour.
«For four years now, the demand of developers who wanted to turn Mérida, a World Heritage city, into a benchmark for the Flamenco, which is also an Intangible Heritage of Humanity," argued Antonio Rodríguez Osuna, mayor of Mérida.
In this edition, the festival pays tribute to Juan Peña The Lebrijano, who will receive the Festival Award posthumously, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of his death. The award was accepted by his daughter on behalf of the family.
Tickets are available from June 16 at El Corte Inglés.
