Poster announcing the 46th Flamenco Night, 2026, in red on white.

The Ecijan Flamenco Night represents one of the most significant achievements in the consolidation of flamenco in the city. Since its first edition, held in the summer of 1973, this festival has reflected the deep passion for flamenco in Écija, becoming one of the most important events not only in the province of Seville, but in all of Andalusia. This year we proudly celebrate the 46th edition of the Écija Flamenco Night, an event that, over more than five decades, has established itself as an essential part of the Andalusian cultural calendar.

The Ecija Flamenco Night is not only a demonstration of the passion that Ecija feels for flamenco. flamencobut also a fundamental tool for its preservation, dissemination, and evolution. Since 2023, the festival has expanded its traditional format to take place over five consecutive days, becoming a true mini-flamenco biennial where art engages in dialogue with the city's extraordinary historical heritage.

Palaces, stately homes, squares, and monumental streets are transformed into vibrant stages where a top-tier program of learning, enjoyment, and celebration takes place. The 2025 edition also marked a milestone by moving the grand gala to the monumental setting of the Palace of Peñaflower and the Valdehermoso Palace, reinforcing the union between heritage and flamenco and projecting a unique image of Écija to the outside world.

The festival also stands out for its educational and academic dimension, aimed at fostering young talent and reclaiming the memory of historical figures linked to flamenco Ecijano and strengthen a tradition deeply rooted in local society.

The promotional image for this edition was created by Virginia Bersabé, an artist from Écija, whose work focuses on women as fundamental transmitters of flamencoThrough a nocturnal atmosphere charged with symbolism, the artist evokes the shared emotion, collective memory, and sense of community that have historically accompanied this art.

“When night falls, the courtyard becomes a temple. The stars and jewels sparkle together. The women gather, and the revelry begins. A spectacle of flamenco about talent, resilience, and transformation.

There are spaces that only reveal themselves at night. The courtyard, by day a place of transit and light, transforms into something different when darkness falls. Into a place of encounter and almost sacred listening. The sign stems from that idea.

El flamenco What is proposed here does not originate from the stage but from the courtyard, from intimate gatherings, from the women who for centuries sustained art from within. In private parties, in family celebrations, in spaces where there was no audience but community.

The composition of the poster reflects this dual nature: there is a block of movement and weight, of bodies in a trance and palmas that mark the time located in the lower half.

In the upper half, there is a moment of stillness, of open sky. A night landscape with silent cypress trees that listen. Human heritage and architectural-natural heritage, interior and exterior, divided by a semicircular arch from which an information banner hangs.

In the center, a figure wrapped in a Manila shawl. Also adorned with the colors and embroidered landscapes of the night. Together they form something very powerful. Around her, a group of women. Not hierarchy, but a constellation. Each one shines. Each one is fundamental, as my dear Antonio Gala used to say: like a tessera in the mosaic that composes a whole. Color plunges into the night. In pieces by historical painters who worked on the flamenco like Gonzalo Bilbao, Sargent, Sorolla or Zuloaga while I listen flamenco from different eras and I dance in front of the poster with all of them.

El flamenco The life these women live was not learned in academies. It was transmitted through shared experiences, through repeated gestures, through voices passed from one generation to the next almost unconsciously. This proposal is a tribute to that invisible form of knowledge and the living resilience of women in art.
