In this ninth edition of the festival, 130 young musicians from Denmark will interact with artists, schools, and the general public in a program that connects flamencogastronomy, creativity and cultural coexistence.
The Villapanés Palace hosted this Thursday the presentation of the program for the ninth edition of the International Festival of Flamenco Youth and Children 'Kriatura 2026', an event that will be held in our city under the slogan 'Échale papas', in reference to Jerez, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, from April 8 to 15For one week, 130 young musicians from Denmark will live alongside artists, educational centers, and the general public of Jerez, in a program that connects flamencogastronomy, creativity and cultural coexistence.
The event was attended by the Culture Delegate, Francisco Zurita; the festival director, Kirstine Hastrup; the director of Fundarte, Carlos Granados and one of the festival coordinators, Pedro Garrido 'Niño de la Fragua'.
The Culture Delegate emphasized that this is a “highly anticipated festival, perfectly aligned with our commitment to expanding culture and sharing values with other European countries, because culture is universal.” He also noted that “our commitment and unwavering decision is to continue supporting culture as a driving force for our city and our economy.”
He has thanked Kirstine Hastrup, Carlos Granados, Pedro Garrido He thanked all the participating artists, many of whom were present at this event, "because without them this festival would be impossible," and expressed his gratitude that this edition of Kriatura is joining Jerez, the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, with activities related to the city's culinary culture that will be shared by young Danes and people from Jerez.
El International Festival of Flamenco Youth and Children 'Kriatura 2026' The festival will begin on the 8th with a welcome dinner, in collaboration with 'A tu vera', at the Lola Flores Monument, as part of Jerez 2026, Spanish Capital of Gastronomy. On the 9th, the official opening ceremony will take place in the Cloisters of Santo Domingo, followed by a gathering with the educational community of the IES Padre Luis Coloma. That same day, there will be an open rehearsal of the Kriatura 2026 Flashmob and a day of games in Plaza Belén, followed by a social gathering at the Peña Flamenca Don Antonio Chacón. On the 10th, there will be a Jerez cooking workshop with a visit to the Central Market and a concert by young Danish talents at the El Bujío bar-cultural space.
On the 11th, the young Danish group Kriatura will participate together with the Villamarta Theatre Choir The program includes performances at the Mercado de Abastos (Central Market) and Plaza del Arenal, as well as the grand vegetable parade in the San Miguel neighborhood, 'Papas Aliñás' (Seasoned Potatoes), and a concert in El Bujío featuring 'Mixtolobo'. On the 12th, a cultural event will take place at the Mercado de Cádiz (Cádiz Market), and on the 13th, a musical gathering of young people from Denmark and Jerez will be held at La Guarida del Ángel (The Angel's Lair).
On the 14th, the festival will feature a gastronomic tour of Jerez's most iconic restaurants, and on the 15th, the final show and the creative competition "Échale Papas" will take place at the Villamarta Theatre. That same day, the music video for "2026" will be filmed at the Royal School of Music, and a closing dinner will be held at La Guarida del Ángel.
