La Peña The people of Jerez decided to dedicate their National Saeta Competition to the late, great figure of El Niño Gloria. To join in this tribute, I have decided to compile and share the four saeta recordings of this singer from Santiago de Cuba, made between 1929 and 1930.
There is no doubt that Rafael Ramos Antúnez (Jerez de la Frontera, April 27, 1893 – Seville, February 11, 1954) was one of the firm pillars flamencoHe was a singer of sung prayers. Born in the Santiago neighborhood but artistically nurtured in Seville, he bequeathed to us prodigious and highly expressive saetas. The cry of Santiago, sculpted with the chisel of the Sevillian Baroque, one might say.
