On May 27th, at the Rojas Theater in Toledo, the flamenco singer José Soto Soto 'el de la Mercé' was presented with the award Medal of Merit in Fine ArtsThis award, granted by the Spanish government at the suggestion of the Ministry of Culture, is now proudly displayed in the Jerez-born performer's trophy case. Alongside him, other artists were also recognized, with whom he now shares this prestigious accolade.
An ideal opportunity to briefly review the extensive and successful discography of the Jerez native. In this podcast, we revisit its first recording phase. These recordings began very early, in 1972, with Manolo Sanlúcar, Antonio Gallardo, and Manuel Ríos Ruiz. From that period, we listen to 'Fandangos de la Margarita'. I'll move on to some fandangos, this time from El Gloria, from the LP 'Flag of Andalusia' (1977) to continue with siguiriyas of 'Verde Junco' (1985) and end with a soleá of 'Royal Roads of Cante' (1987). Finally, bulerías by 'Deep Roots' (1991)Among the guitarists, Enrique de Melchor stands out, although names such as Antonio Solera, Luis Habichuela, Tomatito, José Luis Postigo or Moraíto also appear.
Family Expoflamenco wishes to send José Mercé and his family Our sincerest congratulations for the merit acquired over so many years for this award of the Fine Arts Medal
