II International Jaleos Extremeños Dance Competition

The City of Badajoz is the capital of the Flamenco Extremadura. Around its Plaza Alta, the two cantenative Extremadurans:
Tangos and Jaleos Extremeños, which makes it worthy of being the venue for a competition Flamenco with the category that corresponds to this art.

Dancers from all over the world, aged between 18 and 45 years, may register until September 15 to participate in this prestigious competition. The selection process includes an online preliminary phase, in which applicants must submit a 5- to 10-minute video showcasing their talent, with special emphasis on choreographies based on Extremaduran jaleos. El Flamenco It was recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on November 16, 2020, as a symbol of identity and artistic expression of Andalusia, Murcia, and Extremadura. In addition, Flamenco Extremeño was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest of Extremadura, since March 15, 2022. Finally, the Cantes Extremeños, tangos and jaleos extremeños, are approved and recognized as native to Extremadura, thanks to the presentations defended by the flamencologist from Extremadura, Paco Zambrano, at the National Congress of Art Flamenco of 1988.

The Extremaduran Toque is recognized by all flamenco fans thanks to the contributions of our guitarists, especially Miguel Vargas. Extremaduran tangos and jaleos are the two palos of the flamenco
which constitute a heritage to be protected, conserved and promoted.
Extremaduran dance seeks recognition that gives it its identity, and its circumstances vary. On the one hand, Extremaduran tango, with its unique characteristics, is part of the larger common core that encompasses all tango styles. Flamencos, and yet, the dance of Jaleos Extremeños, is a cultural element endowed with singularity, an expression that remained residual in Extremadura, after the rest of
Jaleos flamencoThe existing ones disappeared in the second half of the 19th century, with the emergence of Soléa and/or Soleares and later Bulerías.

According to Paco Zambrano, the jaleos of Extremadura have their origin in the canteThe dances that accompany the gypsy wedding, at the time when the marriage was considered complete, and show its uniqueness and maintain its validity, are the main reason for the birth of this contest.

ABOUT THE JURY:

The registered contestants will be selected by a jury chosen by the organizers. It will consist of at least three professionals in the discipline, always in an odd number. There may also be a secretary with a voice but no vote.
• The jury will evaluate the best and most complete interpretation of the dances selected by the contestant, primarily the Jaleos Extremeños dance, which is the heart of the competition.
• The Jury will have full authority to award prizes, as well as to declare the prize void if they deem it necessary.
No claim will be made against this decision.
• The jury will have the full right to determine the order of appearances by the contestants in the semifinals. In the case of the grand finale, the order of appearances will be determined by lottery.

ABOUT THE AWARDS:

• The International Dance Competition Flamenco by Jaleos Extremeños will have 3
main prizes:
1. First prize valued at 9.000 euros and a trophy.
2. Second prize, valued at 5.000 euros and a diploma.
3. Third Prize, valued at 2.000 euros and a diploma.
• Likewise, the contest will also award the following prizes:
▪ Two training scholarships awarded at the National Ballet of
Spain, which includes two weeks of training in the
prestigious ballet.

▪ A training stay at the Ballet Flamenco of Andalusia.
