The Suma Flamenca Festival explores the dialectic between 'Tradition and Avant-garde' in its twentieth edition.
The art festival jondo of the Community of Madrid will be held from October 14 to November 2 with a total of 46 flamenco galas, seventeen of them world premieres and eighteen premieres in Madrid
As a preview of the festival, the Ateneo will host the exhibition 'Duende, Tradition and Avant-Garde' by photographer Ana Torralva from October 1st to the 29th.
A roundtable moderated by Pedro Calvo and three presentations on dialectics will take place in the Anselma Hall of the Ateneo from October 1 to 4.
The Canal Theatres, the Pilar Miró and Paco Rabal Cultural Centres in Vallecas, the Royal Theatre and Coliseum Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the Royal Monastery of El Paular in Rascafría, the Regional Centre for Humanity in La Cabrera, the Abbey Theatre and the Ataneo in Madrid will host this festival.
As a preamble to the festival, Young Flamenco Suma will once again be held in the Sala Verde of the Teatros del Canal, with an event dedicated to the lonely young people of the cante, the guitar and the dance in four galas scheduled from September 25 to 28

The Community of Madrid will celebrate the twentieth edition of the Suma Flamenca Festival from October 14th to November 2nd, under the artistic direction of Antonio Benamargo for the sixth consecutive year. Established as one of the most important art events, jondo At the national level, the festival is structured this time around the thematic axis 'Tradition & Avant-garde', highlighting the constant creative tension that defines the flamenco from its origins.
This year's program includes a total of 46 flamenco galas, with seventeen world premieres and eighteen premieres in Madrid. The performances will take place in iconic venues such as the Teatros del Canal, the Teatro de la Abadía, the Ateneo de Madrid, the Teatro Real Coliseo Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the Royal Monastery of El Paular, the La Cabrera Regional Humanities Center, and the Pilar Miró and Paco Rabal Cultural Centers.
Preliminary activities at the Ateneo de Madrid
As a preview of the festival, the Athenaeum of Madrid will host the exhibition "Duende, Tradition and Avant-Garde" by photographer Ana Torralva in the Anselma Hall, which can be visited from October 1 to 29. In addition, from October 1 to 4, a roundtable discussion moderated by Pedro Calvo will be held in the Cátedra Mayor Auditorium, and there will also be three presentations on the dialectic of Tradition and Avant-Garde in the following days. The four days will conclude with live performances.
As a notable prelude to the festival, The fifth edition of Suma Flamenca Joven will take place from September 25th to 28th, an exhibition dedicated to performers under thirty years of age in the disciplines of guitar, cante and dance. The four galas, which will be held in the Sala Verde of the Teatros del Canal, will feature young talents from Cádiz, Seville, Málaga, Granada, Badajoz, Valladolid, Tarragona, and Serbia.
